About me as a therapist

My aim is to provide you a non-judgmental and compassionate space in which you can feel respected and heard. I want to help you gain a better understanding of the difficulties you experience (e.g., based on psychological models), and become effective in managing these outside of therapy on your own. My approach is evidence-based, utilizing cognitive-behavioral (CBT) including third-wave cognitive therapies such as acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), schema therapy, and compassion-focused therapy (CFT).

About my therapy sessions

I am available for a free initial phonecall to discuss the nature of your concerns before booking a session. The initial session/s focus on understanding your difficulties as well as possible, and therefore I will ask you questions and may ask you to fill in a psychological inventory/inventories for a good overview of your current problems. We will focus on discussing therapy goals together at the beginning of therapy. During psychological therapy, the aim is to increase personal insight into the behavioral, emotional, and thought processes that are happening, and to learn ways of managing or changing patterns that lead to difficulties. I may give you tasks to do in-between sessions or ask you to fill in a diary (i.e.) to record feelings / thoughts throughout the week. Every client is different, and we will be evaluating your well-being and adjusting the treatment plan depending on what works or does not work for you.

My education has equipped me with important knowledge on the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric disorders. I have had training in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), short-term interpersonal therapy, schema therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and compassion-focused therapy (CFT). I have experience working with depressive-, anxiety-, and obsessive-compulsive disorders, traumatic experiences, relationship difficulties (esp. in multicultural families), and immigration stress, among other.

Client group

I have an understanding of the difficulties that can emerge as an expat, developed through my own experiences of living abroad and working with expats, including Finns living abroad. Although I have a keen interest in working with expats, I am happy to work with you regardless of your background as an expat or a native Finn living in Finland.
