About me as a therapist
As a therapist, I am empathic and respectful, and my aim is to provide a non-judgmental space for you to feel safe and comfortable to discuss personal difficulties. As a psychologist my role is not only to support you, but to help you gain a better understanding of the issues you experience and provide you with tools and knowledge to manage these outside of therapy. I use validated treatments and scientific knowledge to ensure the quality of the psychological therapy I provide. I am culturally sensitive, trauma-informed, and my approach is integrative - I use cognitive-behavioral techniques (including acceptance and commitment therapy, schema therapy and mindfulness techniques), as well as Interpersonal therapy (IPT) when applicable. I can also provide screening for neuropsychological disorders (ASD, ADHD, etc.).
About my therapy sessions
The initial sessions focus on building the therapeutic relationship and understanding your problems better. This means that I will be asking you a lot of questions, and I may ask you to fill in questionnaires that further help to understand the problems you experience. Together we will agree on the goals of treatment. During therapy, I will provide emotional support, and increase your insight into present behavioral, emotional, and thought processes. We will discuss coping skills based on scientific knowledge and practice. I may give you tasks to do in-between sessions or ask you to fill in a diary (i.e.) to record behaviors/thoughts/feelings throughout the week. Every client is different, and we will be evaluating your well-being and adjusting the treatment plan depending on what does and what does not work for you.

My professional background and knowledge
I graduated with a Master of Science in Clinical Psychology from the University of Leiden (the Netherlands) in 2023. Prior to this I studied at Maastricht University (Neuroscience and Psychology) and graduated from Leiden University with a BSc in Psychology. My education equipped me with valuable knowledge on the assessment of psychiatric disorders and the therapeutic skills to facilitate positive changes. During my MSc in Clinical Psychology, I was trained in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and short-term interpersonal therapy (IPT). I have completed additional training in schema therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and working with neurodiversity (i.e., ASD, ADHD). I have previously helped with depressive-, anxiety-, obsessive-compulsive- and personality disorders, with traumatic experiences, relationship problems, and immigration stress, among other.
Client group
I have developed a good understanding of the difficulties that can emerge as an expat/immigrant both through my work with expats and living abroad for several years. However, I am happy to help you whether you are an international or a Finnish individual looking for psychological therapy. I work with young people from the age of 13 and with adults of all ages to increase overall well-being and life satisfaction and to assess and cope with emotional/behavioral/cognitive difficulties.
