About me as a therapist

My aim is to provide a non-judgmental and compassionate space in which you can feel respected and heard. I want to help you gain a better understanding of the difficulties experienced (e.g., based on psychological models), and provide tools to manage these outside of therapy. At the same time, your life circumstances and experiences also guide the direction of therapy towards one that suits your needs the best.

About my therapy sessions

I am available for a free initial phonecall to discuss the nature of your concerns before booking a session. The initial session/s focus on understanding your difficulties as well as possible, and therefore I will ask you questions and may ask you to fill in a psychological inventory/inventories. We will also focus on discussing therapy goals together at the beginning of therapy, while remaining flexible to the possibility of changing goals during the process. During psychological therapy, the aim is to increase personal insight into the behavioral, emotional, and thought processes that are happening, and to learn ways of managing or changing patterns that lead to difficulties. I may give you tasks to do in-between sessions or ask you to fill in a diary (i.e.) to record feelings / thoughts throughout the week. Every client is different, and we will be evaluating your well-being and adjusting the treatment plan depending on what works or does not work for you.

My professional background and knowledge

I hold a Master of Science in clinical psychology from Leiden University in the Netherlands. Before my Master studies, I studied neuroscience and psychology at Maastricht University, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in psychology from Leiden University in 2021. My education has equipped me with important knowledge on the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric disorders. I have had training in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), short-term interpersonal therapy, schema therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) as well as compassion-focused therapy during my studies and through continued education after University. I have also had further training in working with neurodiversity (i.e., ASD, ADHD).

I have experience working with depressive-, anxiety-, and obsessive-compulsive disorders, traumatic experiences, relationship difficulties (esp. in multicultural families), and immigration stress.

Client group

I have an understanding of the difficulties that can emerge as an expat, developed through my own experiences of living abroad and working with expats, including Finns living abroad. Although I have a keen interest in working with expats, I am happy to work with you regardless of your background as an expat or a native Finn living in Finland.

I am also happy to be of support and work with individuals suffering from a chronic or long-term illness/es.
