About me as a therapist

As a therapist, I am empathic and respectful. My aim is to create a non-judgmental space for you to feel safe and comfortable to discuss personal and difficult topics. I will try my best to gain a thorough understanding of you, your background story, and the issues that you experience.

My Role as a Psychologist
As a psychologist my role is not only to support you, but to help you gain a better understanding of the issues you experience and provide you with tools and knowledge to manage these outside of therapy. Importantly, I use validated treatments and up-to-date scientific knowledge to ensure the quality of the psychological therapy I provide. I am culturally sensitive, trauma-informed, and my approach is integrative, meaning that I use cognitive-behavioral techniques (i.e., Acceptance and Commitment therapy, Schema therapy, Mindfulness), and Interpersonal therapy (IPT) when applicable. I can also provide screening for neuropsychological disorders (ASD, ADHD, etc.).

About my therapy sessions

The initial sessions will focus on building the therapeutic relationship and understanding your problems better. This means that I will be asking you a lot of questions, and I may ask you to fill in questionnaires that further help to understand the problems you experience. Together we will agree on the goals of treatment.

During therapy, I will provide emotional support and validation, and increase your insight into present behavioral, emotional, and thought processes. We will discuss coping skills based on scientific knowledge and practice. I may give you tasks to do in-between sessions or ask you to fill in a diary (i.e.) to record behaviors/thoughts/feelings throughout the week. Every client is different, and we will be evaluating your well-being and adjusting the treatment plan depending on what does not work and what best works for you.

Prior to finalizing therapy (and throughout therapy), we will discuss the prevention of potential symptoms from negatively escalating.

My professional background and knowledge

I have graduated with a Master of Science in Clinical Psychology from the University of Leiden (the Netherlands), which is among the oldest and top ranked universities in Europe. Prior to this, I studied in Maastricht University (Neuroscience and Psychology) and I graduated from Leiden University (BSc Psychology, Cum laude). My education equipped me with important knowledge on therapeutic skills, assessment of psychiatric disorders and understanding differential diagnosis. During my MSc in Clinical Psychology, I was educated on cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and interpersonal therapy (IPT). I have worked with the English-speaking community in Finland, and helped with problems such as depressive-, anxiety-, and obsessive-compulsive- and personality disorders, traumatic experiences, relationship problems, immigration stress, and others. I have also completed additional training in Schema therapy, Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT), and working with neurodiversity (i.e., ADHD).

Client group

I have developed a strong understanding of the difficulties that can emerge as an expat/immigrant, after living in various countries in the past. With these experiences, I have grown a keen interest in providing psychological help to the international community in Finland. However, I am happy to help you whether you are an international or a Finnish individual looking for psychological therapy. I work with young people from the age of 13 and with adults of all ages, whether to increase overall well-being and life satisfaction, or to assess and cope with emotional/behavioral/cognitive problems.

I am available for a free phone consultation to discuss the nature of your concerns and evaluate my ability to help you before booking a session.
I currently focus on providing online therapy and you can contact me from anywhere in Finland.
